Well, a long, long time ago, I told you that I would post a pic of our little boy.Notice that he is a very, very smart dog and is a full fledged GIANTS fan. He wears his hat with pride and he watches every game with me. He whimpered a lot during the San Diego series and yesterday for the opening Dodger game.
The primary message of this post is to say that the way to go when you pick out your next dog, is to go the "rescue" route. Unless one is into selective breeding or showing a dog, don't buy a purebred or especially through a puppy mill. Legitimate pet stores are no longer selling dogs or cats. A shelter will not allow you to adopt a dog unless it has been neutered, micro chipped and had all shots. They also screen the applicants for the suitability of the particular animal to the family adopting. So many, many dogs need a forever home. Go to all the local shelters, you will fall in love, I guarantee it.
I have had 6 dogs, all purebred, before Scooter, and he is absolutely the best I've ever owned. Do the right thing, please.
Three of our four "babies" are rescue. The kittens were from our local shelter. We ended up with two kittens only because they were having an "Adopt One - Get One 1/2 Off". Never one to pass up a sale. . .well you get the picture.
ReplyDeleteOur "mutt" was rescued from a woman outside the local grocery store. She had a litter of 4-week old puppies that she was giving away. Being that a) the pups were too young to be leaving mom b) the woman had no idea what breed the pups were as the father was a dog that "got over the fence" - we decided to rescue one before she dumped the box somewhere just to get rid of them.
Our 4 pound, 4 week old puppy is now a 92 pound, 2 year old dog who thinks she is a lap dog. Oooff. We have figured out (as close as possible) that she is a German Shephard; Yellow Lab; Rottweiller mix.
Our fourth baby is a Puggle (Pug/Beagle mix) who is my little Princess.
